then it was my time
and i was to recount
all the things in this world
that had value
the trees came first of course
then the lonely sun
and naturally
i bragged again and again
about the guzzling sea
and how its waves could even score
with the deepest of sunless roots
i named so many things
that there in the end
just as time halted
i forgot to name myself
