to the ones i loved
who asked what love
looks like
know it has the eyes of summer
and the horizontal gaze of you
know it is like
like the first coffee drunken
on what felt like the last day
realize that it is
like all that was lost
slowly
one by one
keys
family
memories
good and better
horrible and worse
times submerged underwater naked
and yelling
a birth
a death
a shower in between
spit getting caught in my throat
someone else’s
my own
words digested by air
air consumed by words
times i was tired of living this way
where i am not able to remember enough
of this
coming back to me
in a tidy line that i can sit with
that i can repeat
during the longest summer again
offering them
in the widest hands i have learned
a lasting drink of that same coffee
or that different long look at you
there at the end
by yourself
waiting for me
forgetful
gazing away
once more
